Green Life Church is pleased to offer an 8-week book study facilitated by Rev. Helen Nelson based on For the Beauty of the Earth: A Lenten Devotional by Leah Schade (author, Creation-Crisis Preaching). The sessions will be held 7pm—8:30pm on Wednesdays from February 26 through April 15. This class is limited to 20 participants and is to be held in a private home in Raytown, Missouri. To register, send an email with your name, address, phone number, and email address to greenlifechurchkc@gmail.com. The address for the class will be emailed to you after you register.

As we mark the 50th anniversary of Earth Day this spring (April 22), we invite you to reflect on how caring for God’s creation is connected to faith as we study this new nature-themed Lenten devotional. Each week of For the Beauty of the Earth focuses on a different aspect of the splendor of nature, how God nurtures our spirit through creation, and how we must protect our precious home.

Participants will receive a free copy of the Lenten devotional book. Each daily devotion includes a scripture verse, a brief meditation, and either a spiritual practice or questions to ponder. The book also includes a bonus section on 50 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day during the 50 Days of Easter. Continue the Lenten journey into the 50 days of Easter with this list of 50 practices, ideas, and rituals to honor Earth Day.

Leah D. Schade is the Assistant Professor of Preaching and Worship at Lexington Theological Seminary in Kentucky and the author of Creation-Crisis Preaching: Ecology, Theology, and the Pulpit. An ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America since 2000, Leah has served congregations in rural, urban, and suburban settings.

Leah has served as an anti-fracking and climate activist, community organizer, and advocate for numerous environmental and social justice issues. Her newest book co-edited with Margaret Bullitt-Jonas, Rooted and Rising: Voices of Courage in a Time of Climate Crisis, contains essays from a cross-section of faith leaders and activists offering their spiritual wisdom for facing the difficult days ahead.

Rev. Helen Nelson is a minister ordained by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and by the Association of Unity Churches. She is the founder of Green Life Church, living the gospel of Jesus Christ through health and wellness, peace and justice, and environmental sustainability.
