A New Planting of the Lord
Green Life Church is a newly forming church that welcomes persons from all backgrounds to grow with us in consultation with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The concept for Green Life Church was first conceived by Rev. Helen Nelson in the early 1990s, with some aspects of the vision implemented in earlier ministries she served. ln 2016, Rev. Nelson began to discern that God was calling her to plant a new church from the ground up with other persons who value health and wellness, peace and justice, and environmental sustainability as integral, not tangential, to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Acting on faith, she left a congregation she had served for almost nine years to conduct research and enter a spiritual discernment process. In 2017, she began learning new skills to better equip her to cultivate a more comprehensive expression of her vision of ministry. Also, during 2017, she developed and began to implement a comprehensive ministry plan. She field tested outdoor worship services and offered outreach programs through existing community venues in Independence, Missouri, and throughout the Greater Kansas City area. In the spring of 2018, a solid infrastructure was set in place to facilitate community engagement and to build up to an official launch event (coming soon) of the new church. It is our sincere hope that you will join us for worship and other activities and become a part of our leadership and launch teams.
Green Life Church is a part of a movement toward wholeness in a fragmented world. We believe that all Creation is meant to flourish in the love of the Creator.
"But the godly will flourish like palm trees
and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house.
They flourish in the courts of our God.
Even in old age they will still produce fruit;
they will remain vital and green.
They will declare, “The Lord is just!
He is my rock!
There is no evil in him!” Psalm 92:12-15
